Fancy Jars

I use mason jars for lots of things at my house. We use them to make sauces (put the lid on a shake-easy!). We use them as drinking glasses. We mix paint in them (we don’t use the same ones for eating and paint mixing, just for the record). I have a little collection around my room that hold pens and other office-y supplies. And there’s one in my bathroom that holds my toothbrush and a few make up brushes.

I love the look of clean mason jars; rustic, simple and (dare I say it) a little bit country. I’m into it. All the way. But I saw these pretty jars on Apartment Therapy and I thought it’d be fun to spruce a few of mine up. So I did.

All you do is: 1. Gather some paint in colors you prefer and some clean jars. 2. Add paint to the jars and swirl/drip it all along the insides of the jar. Use a paint brush to help fill in any areas you missed. That’s it! This took less than 10 minutes (plus overnight drying time) and I have two fancy jars in my room and bathroom now. Small little projects and improvements are fun!

Thanks for letting me share craft #4 of 2012 with you. Happy crafting! xo. Emma

I really love the way words are seen now on the jars, 3D like on the 60′s movie posters!

I’m with you, mason jars are the best! They are a bit country but I actually find them clean, practical and elegant so I think they can work with a modern table setting too. These look great.

Emma I am obsessed with this. I have always loved the look of mason jars but somehow wished that they wouldn’t be so plain and clear sometimes. Definitely giving this one a try. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is a lovely idea and I love the colours you chose. I might suggest we use a jar for our toothbrushes too.
Thanks Emma!

We use a lot of Mason jars around our house too – for salad dressings, drinks, vases, jars, whatever – and now I love this idea to hold things on my desk. Great, easy idea!

yay! easy peasy…I just fancied up a vintage ink bottle. thanks for the tip! (I tried this once before and failed…i think my paint was too thin or something…)

Kayleigh January 21, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I’m the same, I use mason jars a lot too! They’re super easy when I want to take a glass of milk to work, just screw the lid on extra tight.

I love the yellow you used, it’s so cheery without being overly bright or obnoxious. I wonder if you could put the paint in the jar and then cover very tightly with saran wrap and shake… ? I may have to experiment :)

You used such amazing understated colors. No I have no excuse but to make some for myself!
