Easy Terrarium Displays

One of my goals this year is to decorate my new home. I get a little intimidated by home decor, as it’s not something that I have done a lot of in the past (mostly sharing space/apartments with friends and roommates along the way). But I’m really excited about it and have been enjoying the process of gathering online inspiration. I really liked these little terrarium displays my sister made for our store last year. And I am an avid collector of old glass and wood cheese plates, so I decided to turn my collection into mini terrariums for my room. Here’s what I did:

1. Get supplies. The cheese plates were thrifted, and the moss and other embellishments were all bought at my local craft store. 2. Arrange the moss in your display. 3. Add accents, I used gold pinecones and faux white birds (plus one of my terrariums has an old wood pipe in it!). 4. Once you’ve assembled them, display them in your home. Easy!

I actually have four of these little terrariums scattered throughout my bedroom. And once I had the supplies it only took about 20 minutes to put them all together, a fun little evening project that I really think has added some charm to my room.

Thanks for letting me share Craft #2 of 2012 with you! What have you been making lately?

xo. Emma

These are so cute! Terrariums are my favorite.
I love having live plants in them during the winter, it’s like having a mini indoor garden in it’s own little glass world. :)

AHH! I have four of the cheese glass/plates and I don’t know what to do with them! This is such a great idea… I’m going to the store today to get supplies! I love cheese glasses but never know what to do with them! This is fantastic!

These look so cute! There’s a similar project in the Design*Sponge book I wanted to try this year, do you have that book? Such a pretty idea.

Lovely! I would like to add a few terrarium like this to my apartment decor. Right now we are a little short on shelf space since we are renting a previously furnished apartment that was already full of decor when we moved in. Hopefully in the next apartment!

I love that it adds a bit of green to the room without having to care for a plant. I’m terrible on plants.

I’m so glad you posted this! I just thrifted a couple cheese plates myself for some kind of project.

So much fun! I love how little craft projects can add such personality to a room!
I recently painted my boring motorbike helmet to make it a bit more exciting: http://schoolteacherinlaos.blogspot.com/2012/01/helmet-refresh.html

Oh how I wish I did not have a cluttered room in my parents’ house and had my own place to decorate and set up to suite my own taste. These are just precious :)

Such a great idea! They look so different from the regular terrariums in a vase or something, so much more original and fun!

CUTE! I just made my friend Star Wars themed terrariums for his Christmas gift – a scene from each movie with the appropriate Lego Star Wars characters. Now I just need to make some for myself :) (maybe some harry potter scenes…)

These are adorable! I have been meaning to make a terrarium for such a long time, I think you have just inspired me to get on with it! haha
