Apple Dumpling Cinnamon Rolls

by Emma on December 27, 2011

in Breakfast

This is what I made Christmas morning. What I love about these cinnamon rolls is they take about 30 minutes to make, including baking time.

Yeah. I know.

In the center of each roll is a bite of baked apple. It’s like a little prize in the center.

Is that weird? Well, whatev. I love sour apples paired with cinnamon and sugar, so I had to add it in. It’s a must.

Apple Dumpling Cinnamon Rolls, makes around 15 small/medium-sized rolls.

Needed: 1 package of puff pastry, 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 1 apple.

Thaw out your puff pastry ahead of time, in the refrigerator. Melt your butter and in a separate bowl combine the cinnamon and sugar. Peel, core and chop up your apple into long thin pieces. Roll out puff pastry and brush on melted butter. Sprinkle on cinnamon sugar, add apple slices to one end and roll up into a long log shape. Slice into cinnamon rolls and place on a prepared baking sheet.

Bake at 375 F for 18-22 minutes, until golden brown.

If you want to make a glaze while these are baking, go for it! I  made mine using 1 stick of melted butter and whisking in 1 cup of powder sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Easy, right?

xo. Emma

I love cinnamon buns! I may just have to buy a pack of puff pastry now. Nothing like a winter morning in England with a sweet treat and some Earl Grey tea. Thanks for the idea!

What a clever use of puff pastry! Who would’ve thought you could make cinnamon rolls so quickly and I love the idea of the apple tucked inside.

Not only are those beautiful, but they also look so delicious! Cinnamon rolls are my favorite treat.

Hi! I want to make this too, but I have some problems with the measurements. Can you please tell me these things in grams? 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 stick of melted butter.

Thanks!

Oh my goodness! I just made this recipe for a New Year’s day brunch. I hope I don’t eat them all before my friends get here. Thanks!!

Penelope Lach January 3, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Okay, I just made these, and they are SO good! The baked apples in the middle make all the difference. My husband had a less-than-satisfactory cinnamon roll when we went out to breakfast a few days ago, and he says he’d be fine if these were the only ones he ever had again! Thanks for all your amazing recipes.

Oh my! I want to host a brunch at my house just so I have an excuse to make these lovely rolls. I can only imagine how good the house would smell with these in the oven. Thank you for this lovely recipe!
