A horse is a horse, of course

When I was a kid, if you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would have said a cowgirl.

Not a cowboy.

Not a rancher.

And certainly not a rancher’s wife.

(Not because I was a child feminist, but because I wasn’t into boys yet.)

I had red cowgirl boots, fringe pearl snap shirts, a cowgirl hat and a PBS special about the life of a cowgirl on VHS.

I had the accessories, I’d done the research. I was going to be a cowgirl.

Not to mention my grandfather was a full-time cattle rancher and I loved visiting my grandparent’s farm and feeding their horses.

I LOVED horses for a while. I still love them but I think the obsession has long past.

I didn’t turn out to be a cowgirl. I turned out to be a business owner/baker… so far. But I still die a little for horses. Probably always will. :)

I’m wearing: dress from Milk from a Thistle, jeans from the Jessica Simpson collection, boots are second-hand Frye boots, and purse from H&M (gift from my boyfriend).

xo. Emma

i rode as a child bc my sister wanted lessons. i wasnt a horse fanatic or an animal person like her but i really liked it. i would love to pick up the habit again, especially that i see the absolute beauty of horses in my old age. oooh so old.

Lauren September 16, 2011 at 6:34 pm

I was just talking about my horse obsessed days as well….and then I came across this book the other day called Horse Crazy. My 24 year old self went and checked it out and my 10 year old self is super excited about it. I guess it’s not such a thing of the past as I thought.Check it out. http://www.amazon.com/Horse-Crazy-Activities-Projects-Horse-Loving/dp/1603421548/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1316201495&sr=1-2

That dress is wonderful!

I loved horse riding until my little sister got really serious about it… and then I couldn’t admit that it was cool any more. I went riding again for the first time in twenty years last winter and, man, those horses seemed BIG.

Naomi September 16, 2011 at 8:45 pm

I’ve never wanted to be a cowgirl and I still think that’s the coolest dress I’ve seen in a while!

Beth September 16, 2011 at 9:05 pm

I want this dress! :) I love horses and so does my son.
On another note: What you do if the site doesn’t have sizing charts? And it is another country? Is the sizing different? I don’t want to guess the wrong size and have the item be too small. I am 5’4″ and 145 so…eek? I know that I have seen a modern to vintage size conversion on A Beautiful Mess. Can you help give me some clues? I have been scared for a while to order anything online for fear of this happening.

Squuueeeee! I looooove that dress! I had a cowgirl phase too….sometimes I suppose I still do. I remember when I was a kid I tried to learn all the horse breeds, I spent hours writing them down in a book and trying to draw them! Your outfit totally brought that back! Loooove it! :) Hearts, Janna Lynn
