Homemade Vegan Nutella

I know. You’re feeling skeptical, right?

I was too.

I mean, Nutella is pretty…. AWESOME. And I’ve been wanting to try to make a healthier, more natural version at home but I had my doubts about it. But I must say, this is pretty close and really, truly VERY good. It is not quite as smooth as store-bought nutella, and it’s not quite as sweet. But it still has all the deliciousness and nutty, chocolate-y flavor of the original stuff.

This is a home-run in my book!

Homemade Vegan Nutella, makes 2 generous cups, recipe from LookBook CookBook

Needed: 1 1/2 cups hazel nuts, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons cocoa (I used Askinosie), 1/2 cup pure maple syrup, 4 tablespoons vegetable oil (or other flavorless oil, like peanut) and 2 tablespoons coconut milk.

In a food processor (no, a blender will probably not work here. sorry!) blend the hazel nuts until creamy like nut butter. Then add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth. Spread over toast. Or make cookies. Or fill a crepe. Go with god, live your life.

Hi Emma,

I just want to warn you that “maybe” my boyfriend is going to get the car, drive wherever you are and kiss you on the mouth…just to warn you…

That how happy he was want I told him about this homemade-healthier-nutella!!

As silly as it sounds, I wish I could make a “non-nutty” version of nutella – or even peanut butter! – for my bf since he’s allergic. :[

Thank you, thank you for this recipe!!! :) My youngest daughter is allergic to dairy (as well as peanuts) :( and my oldest daughter LOVES nutella…so you can see my dilemma. This is the perfect solution!! I am so trying this!! :)

I so want to try that!
And for a lazy very hazelnut version, I’d use hazelnut butter (we find it very easily in France, don’t know around here) and hazelnut oil too.

GOTTA TRY IT SOOOOOOON my mouth is watering already!
